For Travelers, By Owners. UpNext is building Rent By Owner into an efficient and fair marketplace to directly connect travelers to property owners and professional managers. COVID-19 fundamentally broke the short-term rentals market. Short-term accommodations saw a rapid surge in demand as people appreciated and needed more space to connect with family, work remotely, play safely, get back to nature, and appreciate life.
ExploreIt has long been known in the industry that many travelers would opt for short-term rentals (also known as Vacation Rentals, Airbnbs, or RBO-style homes) for any subsequent trip if you could just get the traveler in the front door at least once. Because once a traveler has tried an RBO, they realize the RBO provides a more affordable and more authentic way to travel. The pandemic allowed millions to try short-term accommodations for the first time and these travelers will stay in rentals again and again.
Demand in non-urban destinations surged more than 40% and while there may be a small retrenchment off of this peak, we do not see most of this demand going away anytime soon, especially since the entire segment and travel itself was already growing year-over-year.
Hotala
The accommodations market is an $800B market (as measured pre-pandemic) of which vacation rentals and RBO-style homes is a much smaller subset. For this reason, we are also building out Hotala, a global site and application to highlight the hottest deals in the hottest destinations.
